On the 1st December 2022, The UK Health Security Agency and the British Geological Survey published a revised Radon potential map for Great Britain. This should have been reflected in environmental searches (for example Landmark) commissioned from this date onwards.
However, all sites subject to Phase I Desk Studies etc prior to this date, but for which development has not been completed, should be assessed against the updated Radon maps to ensure that any changes to the Radon mapping and Radon Affected Areas, is taken into account in the design of Radon protection measures for new residential dwellings/buildings. GeoDyne Ltd is well placed to undertake a reassessment of a sites Radon potential utilising both UK Radon mapping and site specific Radon reports.
In accordance with NHBC guidance, all plots commencing construction from 1st February 2023 will be required to comply with the revised mapping in order to conform to NHBC Standards and the Building Regulations. We can assist developers with respect to Radon assessment and protection measures for developments that either have old radon reports (before 1st December 2022) and/or have not been commenced or have not been completed by 1st February 2023. We can also advise on potential courses of action for existing dwellings which now fall into areas identified to be potentially at risk from elevated radon.
