Ground Gas Risk Assessments

Hazardous ground gases such as methane and carbon dioxide can be found naturally in drift deposits and coal bearing strata. They can also be generated from former or existing landfill sites, buried organic material or the degradation of carbonaceous material in Made Ground.

The gasses may migrate through the ground and into buildings where they have the potential to cause explosions or other risks to human health.

The presence of hazardous ground gas at a site may require the adoption of ground gas protection measures in buildings, and is therefore a potential abnormal development issue that must be considered as part of the investigation of a site.

GeoDyne provides comprehensive ground gas investigation services which includes ground gas sampling and monitoring as well as laboratory chromatography analysis, modelling, contouring and risk assessment to enable the design of appropriate gas protection measures in buildings.

Our investigations are designed on a site-specific basis to offer the most cost-effective solutions to mitigate ground gas issues.

GeoDyne has also designed and implemented bespoke ground gas remediation solutions for a variety of sites including actively gassing landfills and infilled brick pits, quarries and canals.
